Default Ready to do work...and need some recommendations

Guys/Gals -
Looking for a little guidance. I've been reading this forum for the last year and have tried to gain as much knowledge as possible on all things Jeep. Been able to do some fairly minor mods myself, but now I'm thinking of letting some professionals take over. I'm ready to start shopping around for a lift...tires later. My couple of questions are:

There are soooo many lifts out there, is there a consensus as to what's the better way to go? I'd like to get 3"....maybe 4", but that's probably a little too much. This is my daily driver (50 miles back and forth to work everyday, all highway) and I like to get out and get it muddy; nothing to serious as far as hitting trails. I reckon this could all change after the lift though!
2nd: Is there a shop somewhere around southwester ohio anyone recommends? Don't mind driving a distance if I know it's going to be done right and can be done same day.
With this being my only vehicle, just a little nervous about something like a lift not getting done the right way.

I'm guessing I'll go with around a 33" tire b/c what I've read is that a 35" pushes the limit of what the stock axle for an automatic can handle. Is there anything else I need to consider or think of??? Thanks in advance for the input.

Hayden

You won't need a 3 to 4" lift if you are running 33s. You should think about a 2.5" kit. Like you said, there are a ton, but Teraflex makes a great kit. Old Man Emu also makes some great stuff and from what I have seen and heard, their 3" is really reliable. If you do go with a smaller size lift, even 3", you can do it yourself and do it right. Once you pick a lift you want, search on the forum for a writeup. Almost all the lower lifts have writeups and will tell you what to look for and expect when installing.

I put on a 2.5" Teraflex coil lift with a buddy and it was not that bad. I was in the same situation as you and did not want 35's due to the stock rear end as well as I have heard bad things about a 35" mounted on the rear tailgate. what I ended up doing was getting toyo open country MT 295/70/17 which come to around 34". So far I love them and have had no problems. I also did put on wheel spacers so that there would be no issues.

Hope it helps

i agree with dburgette the Old Man Emu . if i could have a do over i would of saved a little longer and got the Old Man Emu lift and you should have very little problems installing the lift on your own maybe just having someone around to push down the axle to get the springs in other than that its a one man or woman job

Thanks very much for the input, it's definitely appreciated. I'm going to start scouring the forum and web for the Emu and Teraflex kits to compare and contrast.

Never really thought about Toyo tires before; I've always had BF Goodrich, but I'll take a look at those too. Might be a couple of months before the lift gets attention, but I'll post up pics when I get there.

Take care guys.

Sunfire Offroad is just over in IN or take a Sat and bring it to Indy in the morning and you can be driving it home lifted that night.

I will help and I am sure Scooter will too.

X3....if you are going to run 33's then I'd get the Old Man Emu kit from David at Northridge4x4.com with the JKS track bars. It really isn't that hard to put on yourself. I'm sure there are plenty of guys who have done there own already here in the Great Lakes area who would give you a hand. Personally...I wouldn't spend the money to have it done.

Or like Hardtrailz said, if you want to drive to Indy, we will do it for beer and pizza

I personally run the Rough Country 2.5" lift with coils and 2.2 shocks. I love my lift and it's much more budget friendly than Teraflex. I pieced mine all together...JKS discos, Rough Country lift, homemade brake extensions in rear, JKS adjustable rear trackbar....and I couldn't be happier. I don't have to run bump stops either with my 35s...When I had 32's I had no rubbing....once I put on my 35s I just had to chop the fenders. I have slight rubbing but nothing to worry about
How much lift do you think you got after everything settled on your rough country 2.5? How are the shocks? Ride ok? I'm putting a rough country 4" on this Sunday with Full Traction adj. rear track bar, JKS adj. front track bar, and all eight BDS adj. control arms. I pieced mine together as well. Been collecting parts from tattoo trades for the past six months or so. Thanks Woodweavil!!!

i have the ome ltr lift and i am very happy with it. the shocks have 11" of travel and the ride is great. i am going to move up in spring height to the +40 this winter for a little more height. the 618 619 springs i have now gave me about 3.25 inches of lift without all the extra weight of bumpers, winch etc... they offer several different sizes of lift.

david at northridge is a great place to order from. he will give you a great package deal and has top noch customer service. there is a link to his site in my signature. he sells the ome ltr kit that you can customize to your likeing. he also carries all the other great brands as well terra. rock krawler, rough country.

i would recomend doing your own install as well. you will learn a lot and be able to fix things if you break something on the trail. i would be happy to help you install your lift i won't even charge you the high cost of beer and pizza

o yal don't trust that hardtrails guy he wheels a dang chevy trail blazer he was talking tj to me today tho. we might just convert him.
