Do u need to do anything with the airfilter for the sand getting in there or any other prep to keep the jeep running well?

The filter will keep the sand out. Just keep the water out of the air filter

Slightly off topic, me and two buddies did a 3 day ride on our sportbikes around Lake Michigan last summer and stopped there for a small break. I didn't want to leave! It looked like an awesome place to party! We plan on going over for a long weekend! Hope I'll be able to take my jk when that time comes.

We will be up July 16-23, and probably a few weekend trips. We love it!

Took my car club kids (I'm a teacher at a high school) to the World of Wheels and there were about 6 big a** trucks and one was showing a video of their escapades at Silver Lake. There were numerous clips of attempts and struggles to get to the top of the big dune. The kids were fascinated. I commented that when I was there it did take me 2 attempts to get up the hill. The guys who owned the trucks asked what mods I had to get up the hill. I said none. They didn't believe me. I did tell them I did air down and they asked what tires and I said stock Wrangler SRA's, they really didn't believe me. I said I am not going to run home to get my video of it but I reminded them it was a Jeep. They walked away. I did loudly say, I had 4 adults and a full tank of gas also as a parting shot.

What was their vehicle?

The impression I get is that as long as you air down you can get up the hill. Did you air down more in between attempts?

The dunes are their own animal from one day to the next.

If you hit them after a rain or at the begining of the season they are very hard and you could get away with more streetable air pressures. Also you could be there on a hot day with tons of traffic and the sand is so sponge that you just sink right down.

I always run low pressure like 4-6psi it much easier on the vehicle and passengers. The ride is way more comfortable. Just my 2 cents.
