Default 1911 45..??

How many here have or have had a 1911 45? I've seen these in $ range from affordable to time to hock the family car. I have always wanted one, have shot several years ago and I really like the way the work. feels good, a little heavy,, unless you compare it to a 44 mag revolver or a Taurus 454 revolver. They have great take down power and are very proficient in the right hands..
So multi sided question, do you own one(or more), do you carry this(or something lighter) and why do some people hate this gun so much? I was talking to a buddy about getting one and the way he responded you would have thought I said I was getting a Barbi edition jeep.. I know LEO who carry some very nice weapons but at home the backup is a GI .45?? So why or why not..

I have owned several. Sold all but one. Carry a revolver that is MUCH lighter.

People hate it because they picked the other side of a religious gun war...

Not a bad gun for a design almost 100 years old.

What did you do, Cruiser, decide today I'm gonna keep that old fart Vermont hermit up all night talking about THE .45? I'll start by saying I am a strident fan of the M1911 in general and the .45acp round to be specific.

I need to tend to the dog's needs for a bit and do a couple of other little things, then I will come back and bore you to tears talking about the .45.

No John Moses idols here, the Hi Power knocked him off of the god platform. I worship at the feet of John Dean 'Jeff ' Cooper LTC. USMC Retired.

I shoot a Kimber steel frame .45 and I love it. I have a good friend with the 4 inch barrel aluminum frame Kimber and I must say that is a sweet gun to shoot too. If weight is the issue, there are lots of alloy frame 1911's out there. The new alloys are quite strong and I doubt you will ever wear one out unless you shoot tens of thousands of rounds yearly. I love my 1911, my dream gun now is the 3 inch barrel Kimber Ultra Carry. Ah, one day my ship will come in. If the 1911 is good enough for LA Swat and LA SIS, I guess it must be a reliable proven product.

I shoot and carry a Kimber .45 also. It has a nice trigger and shoots very well. I also carry a Glock depending on how I am dressing and were I am going. I practice quite a bit with my guns and I have had training with firearms. I think you will like a 1911 if you practice using it and get good instruction from someone that knows the weapon and it's capabilities. A Kimber Custom should only set you back in the $600 range and is a very capable weapon. If you decide you want more bells and whistles you can spend a lot of money on high end 1911's but starting out you should just get good with a basic but quality 1911 and go practice and practice.

I have a Rock Island Armory 1911 and love it. It is a cheap entry level 1911 so I figured it would be a good one to start with. After a custum trigger and some new grips I love it. It is a little hard to conceal. I usually only carry it when im wearing a leather jacket, otherwise I carry a 38 special revolver in an ankle holster.

I love my Sig P220 Stainless.

Shoots great
Fits my hand well
Stainless absorbs good amount of the kick

But not an easy carry gun
