1911 vs. other .45
I'd respectfully disagree with that. Lots of special forces operators still use the 1911. Surely SFOD knows what they're doing. Yeah, we switched mostly to the 9x19 M9, but I believe that was mostly an act of contrition to the rest of the NATO countries after we pushed them to adopt the 7.62 x 51, just to turn around and go to the 5.56. That and to be uniform with the other NATO nations. Not because the 1911 is inferior. I've got nothing ill to say about the M9 though, I just believe the 1911 is every bit as capable, if not more so, in trained hands.
Also horrible advice.
First off, unless you are too frail to hold yourself up in a strong wind, you can carry a government model 1911 with no problem. You just need a decent belt and holster. A Walmart Dickies belt and an Uncle Mike's holster ain't gonna cut it. I carry a 1911 and a reload or two everyday, zero issues. It's a very slim weapon, and can be concealed under just a T-shirt with the right IWB rig. If a traditional 1911 is still too heavy for you, they make lightweight models with aluminum and other lightweight metal alloy frames, which cut down on the pistol's overall weight considerably.
Also, above you state that instead of a 1911, one should "get something in a sub compact," which is fine, I'm not knocking subcompacts, they have their place, but then you go on and say this:
How many rounds do you think most sub compacts hold?

In addition, the statement is just all out wrong. The amount of ammo you can carry means NOTHING- ABSOLUTELY NOT A DAMN THING- if you can't hit what you're aiming at. 1000 misses do not equal one hit. Sub compacts, while they do have their place, are notoriously tougher to shoot in most cases than a full size pistol. They have snappier recoil, shorter sight radius, and are harder to hold onto, especially for people with big hands.
If you want to prioritize mag capacity, it should go below, far below, shot placement in terms of importance in your list.

I'm not sure how much tactical shooting you've done, maybe a good bit, but do some running and then draw your weapon and place 3" group of 5 shots.. It's takes A LOT of practice.... I've spent thousands of dollars on tactical training classes, from car jacking scenarios to home invasion scenarios, I'm sorry man giving a normal run of the mill guy 5-8 rounds is a dumb ass idea but it seems to be what you firmly believe so be it, we're not all "pro" like you. I've had people come to be with advice, with the recent murders here in the ATL area, a group of teens beat a man almost to death on public transportation.. You're "well placed 8 rounds" wouldn't have taken out half of them.. You can argue ohh well you have to place them well... give me a fucking break...
A Colt 1911 will weigh WITHOUT ammo almost 4lbs... Gotta love that amazing all steel frame.. not to mention its $800+ price tag.. Self defense also shouldnt cost you an arm and a leg because you want people to stare at your weapon.. I could give two shits that someone carries a 1911, wear a nice thick belt or better yet look retarded with that full paramilitary look with a shoulder sling.. what ever floats your boat... 1911's arent for concealing... but i guess we're entitled to our opinions..
how many fights have you been in with a mob of teenagers or adults? None I think.. I carry for maximum efficiency. I carry to make sure I have every way possible to defend myself in any situation if it be a shootout after being chased through town or a attempt to rob me in a parking garage.. your 8 shots at 40-50 yards ehh you're going to go through those pretty quickly I'd think. running while shooting, or while trying to get cover. Sorry man theres no time for firing line shooting, stop, point, aim, breath in and out, pull trigger.. Doesn't EVER work that way. but again you rely on your 8 shots, I'll rely on my 31 rounds of GoldDot HP's....
What if you face 32 people jackass? You will never be fully prepared. Do you wear body armor too? Some people shoot back, or are you a master of taking cover in an empty dark parking lot too. Oh, let me guess, you were trained not to ever walk in a bad area too.
Everyone play nice. You can give opinions on firearms without getting pissed off about hypothetical bullshit.
I carry a punch knife for when all my ammo is gone from all my guns and I have already broken the stocks off of my rifles using them as a club. You know last resort weaponry. Basically if I have to pull my punch knife it's a really bad day.

i have no idea how many tens of thousands i have thru my current sig 229 - but it hasnt ever jammed outside of intentional dummy rds in training exercises.
Also, make it a headshot with one of your 8 rds from the .45 - since it might not punch a thick jacket, car door, cabinet, drywall, interior door, and certainly not IIIA.
i find a mechanical failure of the weapon to be far less likely than an operator failure during reload - therefore, fewer reloads (more rds per mag) = fewer malfunctions.
i knew it wouldnt take long for a die-hard 1911 crew to flame me! but hey,

You are correct, and most of them stink!
I also own a couple of sigs. 226 elite, 229 and 239. They are good guns. I'm not going to express any more opinions about your choice of weapons. That's just it, it's your choice.
