.357 Sig?
Any one care to share their thoughts/experiences on this round?
Looking to buy another carry gun - in anticipation of my ccl. Most of the info I can find is from almost 10 years ago and was not very positive. Some of the more recent info I found was scarce but much more receptive of this round.
I originally started my quest looking for a Springfield XD sub-compact in .40 S&W. I have a Glock 23 now so I have a healthy supply of ammo and am familiar with the caliber. Since the XD sc's seem to have vanished after January, I am now looking for something else. I have locally (within 1.5 hours) seen a few XD 4" .357 Sig and Glock 32 so I started to investigate.
I am really intrigued by the ballistics and the supposed stopping power of this round. It appears to be the official caliber of the Secret Service, Air Marshalls, TX DPS as well as several other agencies.
To give you some of my background - I own the previously mentioned G23, Ruger .357 Magnum Revolver, Taurus Judge .45LC/.410, Beretta Neos .22LR, Savage .270, Ruger Mini 14, Remington 870, Remington 1100, Savage 720P. I, however consider myself a novice still. Most of these guns were inherrited - hence my ignorance. I now have a passion to learn as much as I can but it can be a little overwhelming - kinda like this Jeep thing
Ballistics are still a little foreign to me but I am trying and reading till my eyes are crossed - probably like anyone who has made it this far through my post

I am a big guy and not worried about recoil. I can handle all my weapons well and practice often.
Is the .357 Sig a good carry round. Could not find any threads here, but I really value ya'lls opinion.

.357 Sig is a very good round. You get the capacity of a .40 with the power of a .357 magnum. It is just a .40 casing bottle necked down to a .357 bullet. It has a higher velocity and alot of stopping power. The .357 Sig also has a flatter trajectory than the .40. One downside: it is freaking expensive. There is an upside to that: Most guns that are .357 Sig can be converted to .40 with a change of barrels or vice versa. I've got a Sig Sauer P226 in .40 and am considering buying a .357 Sig barrel for it. If cost isn't an issue as far as ammo goes, I'd say do it. Won't be disappointed. Good luck finding ammo though....
Sigarms and Fedreal Cartridge collaborated to develop a new round for an auto that would almost equate the stopping power and ballistics of a 357 magnum. The 124 and 125 grain ammunition have the best velocities and seem to perform the best, with anything larger losing the velocity "edge".
I recently read somewhere from a reliable source that Virginia (?) Police had reported outstanding results from the round in real life uses. Apparently rounds fired penetrate clothing and a significant amount of body mass, with most rounds stopping just short of or just outside of full penetration.
Personally, I have added a Sig in .357 Sig to my want list. As far as ammo is concerned, find a bulk seller online and place a (back)order for 1000 rounds, then buy what you can locally and shoot that while you wait.

I own and carry a Glock G32. I also have a Lone Wolf ported barrel for it in 9mm. I use the 9mm at the range for practice shooting. I also shoot some of the 357sig because the recoil is different.
I shoot my 1911 a lot as well so I don't mind the recoil it is just snappy. It does cost more to shoot the 357sig but I think it is a very potent carry weapon. I also own a G17 so I shoot more 9mm through it than my G32.
Since the carry gun is my G32 I feel the need to practice my draw and on target shots with different drill situations. I have Hogue grips on it as well.
It is a great shooter and has never let me down with not a single problem or misfire.
PM if you would like to see a pic or other questions.
