Lol hey give him a chance, maybe he was truly interested?

I'm north of the border too, and my first thought is also "wow". No disrespect though, I think it's awesome. We're just not accustomed to that up here. Excuse our... Ignorance?

Either way, our department (it's a small one...Chicago) did extensive testing, abuse trials, and so on. Our top approved AR's for Duty carry (seeing we have to buy our own equipment) are RRA, DSA, DPMS, Colt, LWRC, and Spike's Tactical. So, if you buy from one of those manufacturer's I'm sure you'll be fine.

If he'd phrased his reply as you did, I think the response would've been much different!

That's great the give you such a variety of options. Especially since you have to buy them yourself.

Many of those guns look intimidating.

My little rifle for my son looks like this

A couple small changes and it looks like this evil scary thing our gun hating liberals think are weapons of mass murder.

Pretty scary, yet they operate the same, though I figure the former might be a bit easier to shoot more accurately, therefore probably more dangerous than the latter.

It obviously wears a suppressor in the house, so it's hearing safe (around 134dB) and exhibits no muzzle flash. Handy when in the dark in close quarters.

It's:
Lighter than a shotgun, shorter than a shotgun, quieter than a shotgun, more accurate, easier to shoot, etc.
More powerful than a handgun, more accurate than a handgun, easier to retain in a fight than a handgun, etc.

So yea I'll take a short barreled rifle with a suppressor. If it's good enough for entry teams, door kickers, and face shooters...it's more than good enough for me. And yes I have it in my home. You'd be surprised how many top tier trainers and consultants (read:all) recommend it as the HD weapon of choice, provided funds permit it and the user doesn't live in apartment-style housing.
Completely agree here. People seem to get scared when u mention suppressors, they don't think about a house and the normal decibels of a AR ( or any unsuppressed gun ) going off.

Agree to disagree on the 'AR is an AR' part. RRA and the like might come with cool goodies, but the foundation of the weapon (barrel steel, bolt, gas port) are never in spec. This is coming from my experience along with a conglomeration of others I shoot with/know, one of whom is an armorer (with history as an armorer overseas for big Army, USCG, Triple Canopy, BW, etc.). But you can always find guys that have rounds downrange without issue. I can also find a couple folks that owned Yugos and Cadillac Cimarrons and never had a problem

As far as it 'running' different types of ammo, RRA, Oly, etc. all will because their gas ports are oversized so they can run underpowered stuff like WPA, Tula, PMC Bronze, etc. They can also run normal loads like XM193 and 855 but do so less than optimally.

Bottom line, TXJfrosty, is that I'm guessing you've worked hard for your money. A PSA or Colt costs no ore than a RRA, Oly, etc. Current times have lead to more educated AR owners/buyers and it is known that some brands use inferior methods of manufacturing, inferior barrel steel, underweight buffers, shitty bolts, etc. So why spend your hard earned money on something known to be a 8/10 when the same money buys a 10/10?

Or buy a commercial gun...but you may regret it

That's it! Got me. Just hiding behind my keyboard.

Who knew guys could be so sensitive. Nicker, the poster was a joke, I didn't really mean 'fuck Canada'. Truth be told, I'm jealous of the wilderness you all have up there!
