You're not alone. My son has been trapping and varmit hunting this year. He's got about 30 pelts so far. He's got racoons, muskrats, skunks, and a coyote (shot with his 270). He'd be thrilled to have just one bobcat, let alone 3 in one month!

I could not find much on the law (at least without spending more than 5 minutes). It appears that it was repealed around 1990.

Why would anybody shoot a bobcat? I assume it was either threatening your life or else they taste yummy. What other reason could there be? I assume all the hard targets were out of range?

For one the pelts are worth money.
Other thing is in some parts of the U.S. they are considered varmints and tend to be overpopulated for the region.

Why does every varmint thread get a post denouncing the killing of it? No one posts in the crawling threads about how it's wrong to tear up the mean, old ground with those big tires. Why not just leave it alone?

I have never even seen a bobcat up here, let alone had a shot at one. Three in a month is some good tracking and good shooting. They are a sneaky animal.

Coyotes are becoming a much bigger problem here in my area. A .204, .223 or .22-250 are just the ticket for the dogs. Pelts are worthless around here but the farmers love to have someone come in and try to get rid of the predator pests.

I'll bring one round next time I'm in your neck of the woods and you can tell us. Hunting is part of north american heritage, and is integral to having a healthy ecosystem. Before you go flapping your gums educate yourself. Damn seal hugger.

Hey. I'm a gun guy and have no problems with hunting for food but sensless killing irritates me. Last week a guy killed an aprox 100 year old gar with a bow. I suppose it was a bit more challenging than shooting a floating log. Yes God put us as dominion over the animals but that dosent mean we should kill a beautiful bobcat for $30.00. It's like watching a big game hunter drive up to a herd of elephants, climb out of his Jeep, set up his gun rest then drop the biggest in the herd. I guess it promotes more of a challenge than shooting the side of a barn. At least you get blood from the elephant. Just my $.02.

You nailed it the hogs, cats and coyotes are a huge problem here the state of Texas. I stock my freezer the best I can with the hog meat and the rest get feed to the buzzards. I manage over 2k acres and I can tell you first hand how devastating the hogs can be to the land and to other game like deer. Coyotes dont bring in any money but once you see them chasing deer down or feeding on a weak calf you become a killer like me in a heartbeat. The cats I like the most because there pelts bring me in good money if the exit holes are small I can get $75-100 for each cat. To me hunting is a way of life if you dont like it do me a favor and dont click on the thread. Im not posting these pics to piss people off im sharing them so other hunters like me can enjoy it.
