All i've got to say is good luck.
In most places, semi auto rifles are fine for hunting, provided mag capacity is with in Fish and Game rules.

Agreed. As far as I've ever heard, semis are good to go for hunting, unless otherwise stated in the Fish & Game regs. A semi still only fires one round at a time w/ one pull of the trigger......right???

That is the same thing I heard and this is the reason I purchased this rifle. I think the limit on the rounds is like 6 or 7 for hunting game.

I heard from a co-worker, that is where I heard of this rifle, that they also sell a 20 round banana clip for this rifle. I am thinking about buying this for the rifle also.

wow, evene the soviet socialist republic of new york doesnt have that law.

It just limits mag capacity to 5 rounds, I use my AR for whonking woodchucks and it's legal, just need to get a couple magazine inserts.

I havent gone in a couple years, hope nothing has changed.

+2 on the .308. I have had several over the years, and with the newer loads/bullets, their performance is on par with '06 (had some of those too) but does give up a little. Where the .308 shines is accuracy. It is an easy round to load up accurately and you can stick bullets from 125 gr to 200 gr (if my memory is correct) which make it capable from coyote to Elk (never hunted moose).

BUT....as was stated before, you have to do your part in not reaching beyond the guns limits, both in range and your ability to shoot accurately.

My Rem700 VLH was modified by an HRT sniper. I loaned it to a friend this fall (I quit hunting a number of years ago, but still shoot) as he was curious about this "sniper rifle". He and a friend of his had doe tags. They took two Muley Does in one evening over the hood of the pickup. One was a perfect behind the shoulder shot at 450 yards (using a laser range finder), then other was a face on head shot at 425 yards.

In this case, the gun and shooter were up to the task and both were instant one shot kills.

Okay...so I bragged on my gun enough. My dad and I argue all the time over the .308 vs 30.06 debate. It's all in fun, but truth is, Dad has killed a WHOLE lot more deer, elk, bear and coyotes with his 06 than I have with a 308.
