Default Question Regarding Ammunition......

Some of you firearms experts clue me in......on another forum I'm a member of (non-Jeep related) a question came up about mercury being in ammunition and the concern of magnetic type holders and holsters. Now, if I remember my high school science right, mercury is NON-magnetic.....right? So, when then would there be a concern about having a magnetic device around ammunition or a firearm? The reason I ask is because a local deputy told a forum member that magnets around ammunition could cause it to go off. Any truth to any of this?

Thanks.

Only if the magnet were shaped like a firing pin and hit the primer with sufficient force to detonate...

Magnets could stick to steel cased or steel core ammo, but not anything I know of would cause them to go off.

If you hit the primer hard enough with a magnet, then it MAY go off.

This should be submitted to Mythbusters. I've never heard of anything remotely like this occurring.
