Default Advice on CJ7 value....

First off, I am sorry I don't have an pics to go with this question but I am looking for advice on determining a good sale price for my 1979 CJ7.

I have had it since I was 17 years old (I'm 40 now) and I just don't have the space, time or knowledge to keep or restore it. It has taken quite a beating over the years and now it just sits in my driveway.

It was a Golden Eagle in the beginning...V8 engine, automatic, 4" procomp lift with 35" super swampers with tons of tread left on 15"x10" steel rims. (I should have put 33x12.5"s on him.)

The engine was rebuilt once upon a time with a 30 over bore and a bunch of edelbrock performance parts. It spun a few hubs in it's time with all of the power.

This jeep is very rough but, with a new battery and a little gas to prime the carb, it will start right up and it runs good. The interior is shot, the paint and body are both bad. A recent wind storm ripped the hard top off and broke it pretty good. and it tweaked the body too, bent up the side of the tub as it ripped off the top.

Do you guys have any suggestions for me on determining the value of this beast?

I also have a brand new soft top (material only) with no hardware that I got from my Dad once, I am not sure how he came to have it but he worked in used/new cars his whole life so I am sure it was part of some deal. I don't even know if it is for a CJ7.... I also have an old light bar with about 4 lights on it.

Do you guys have any suggestions for me on determining the value of this beast?

Thanks, Todd

If its drivable, I'd say $1500. If not, about half. Sounds like parts for a much nicer CJ project.

Man I don't know, V8 CJ's are worth a good penny, and getting more and more valuable. The major consideration would be rust. Very little/no rust, regardless of body dent/dings/bends and interior I'd say 2000-2500.

But then, are you sure you won't regret this?? Youve had it since you were 17!! Let me re-phrase, you WILL regret it. sorry, but I'm 30 and still wish I had my first XJ.

I feel what you are saying....and I know I will regret it at least a little bit. But I have to face the facts. I am not a hardcore mechanic, I don't have a shop available to do any sort of real work on it even if I was. Also, I really want to buy a JK sometime soon, in the next year. I can't spend the money modding a new jeep and at the same time fix up my old one.

At this point there are just too many things that need work on this old man for me to tackle. He is just sitting in my driveway and I am ready to see him in someone else's hands and eventually out there on the trails.

Honestly if it just needs a new body, $2000. If it needs a full resto and a body $1500 would be fair.

Gotta remember that it is a very difficult time to sell vehicles, let alone projects, so I certainly wouldn't expect top dollar.
