axle question 1980 cj5
I am trying to find some stronger axles for a 1980 cj5. I found a set of dana 44 front and dana 60 rear axles off a 1972 dodge pickup 3/4 ton. My questions are: I think the front axle has drum brakes. How hard is it to convert the front and rear axle to disc brakes? The total length of the axles currently on the jeep are approx. 53 inches. I know the new axles are going to be considerably longer, anyone know the length of the full sized 72 dodge axles offhand?
I have seen an instruction video on drum to disc conversion on a tv show on powerblocktv. I just cant remember what axle it was on and if this would be an option for the 44 and 60?
One more thing, I found a dana 61 front axle that is for sale. Are the dana 60 and 61 parts interchangeable? I have heard that the max gear ratio on the 61 is 4.10. Would you go with the dana 44 or dana 61 in the front of the jeep considering price of strenthened axle shafts and such?
