Default Question for New York State inspection

All,
I am looking to get into a CJ7. I am seeing many with chevy V8 conversions and living in NYS I am wondering if a CJ7 with a chevy V8 is valid and will pass inspection.
Any NYS CJ7 owners with a chevy V8 that has information?
Thank you

It should pass, granted the motor swapped in is "newer" than the vehicle. Just what I've heard.

Okay - I dug in and called a local NYS inspection station that I have used in the past.
They stated that for NYS if the vehicle is 26 years old or older it just get's a Safety sticker. It should, by federal law, have all the emissions equipment for the year engine but it is rarely enforced.
So - a 1980 CJ with a chevy smallblock is good to go.
Now - would anyone care to comment on a preference?
I had a 2010 JK Rubi with 35's and 6 speed for the last 3 years and parted with it looking for something a bit less expensive so I could wheel it once in awhile.
I am buying a CJ with criteria of a V8, standard but if wheeling for sure I will do an auto.
I have a couple of interest - 1979, 360 auto and a couple 1978 - 1983 with 304 or chevy.
One thing I am steering away from is when they started with ABS and such.
Thanks for any input -
