Want to buy old CJ - what should I look for?
make sure the frame is in good shape. The body panels are easy to replace and are inexpensive. I would get one with the 6 cycl...the 151 is kind of a dog. CJ7s have the most amount of aftermarket parts next to the TJ.
The YJ as someone stated earlier are usually the cheapest and easiest to find, with all the modern tech.
But....square headlights

I would buy this one:

Mine for sale.
If not mine check the frame where the front of the rear leaf spring attaches. That is normally the first place for the frame to go.

I have a 1948 Willys CJ2a that I put on a 1976 CJ5 frame with an AMC 304. No rust at all after a full restoration. Tons of fun... And I'm selling it. Too many kids, and too little play time for daddy.
If you can find an old Willys I would get it - for knocking around it is a fun vehicle. I had a 59 Willys years back and I have fonder memories of that than my other rigs over the years. I miss it more than my others
