Default Vehicle discount for rebuild title ?

have a JK looking for a first car project for my son who is not even driving for another year.

2001 tj that needs some tlc, it has some goodies on it also.

asking $6000 and i would think if the title was clean and it was cleaned up it may have been worth around $9500.

thinking offer $5000 since it would never be worth much more.

Check your state laws for registering a Salvage Vehicle. I know in Texas it is a complete pain in the butt as you have to get a safety certificate from a mechanic and they can charge what ever they want for the inspection. Buddy tried to go cheap on a Salvage and ended up spending 3G what he paid for car and 2x its value.

Since the TJ has airbags, make certain they are installed and in working order. What damage was done to require a Salvage Title ? Was that damage repaired and certified by professionals ? Don't skimp safety for $, it could cost much more...

I've bought a salvage rig and rebuilt it. Mine was salvage from a blown motor. In CA the problem is more for insurance. I bought mine for 2500 and sold it for 3200. I put about 900 in to it. I bought mine from a salvage yard and got them to include all the necessary rebuild parts in the purchase price.

I'm not sure how bad your sons insurance will be. Also if he gets in an accident with a known salvage rig you may have some negligence exposure too.

Just thinking.
