Default 04 w/2inch eco lift bottoming??

My Dads 04 wrangler willys edition has a 2 inch economy lift that was on it when he purchased it used. The problem he has is that it bottoms out all the time making for an annoying drive even around town. I looked underneath and noticed that he has only about 1 inch to 1.5 inches of travel til it bottoms on the bump stops. I can make it bottom by pushing down on the bumper by hand easily. I only looked on the front springs. Does anybody know if this is normal? He did install a winch and built a custom bumper and flares from steel adding probably quite a bit of weight. Could this be part of the problem? Any suggestions on how to cure this easily and economically?

I'm sure the winch & bumper is the problem...With that much weight pushing down the springs, it wouldn't take much at all to bottom out. I would say buy new springs, especially if it’s a bb with factory springs.

Many lift brands do not give the lift advertised. Whether this is the case or they are just warn out, its time to get new coils if not a new lift package. Look at Teraflex products, their numbers are not exaggerated, very good quality and great customer service.

Does it have bumpstop extensions? If so, you could take those out.

Thanks for the info! I helped my Dad take all the flares and front bumper and winch off last night to paint and now there is alot more space from the bumpstops. I think we may adjust or cut them down to work with all the stuff on. He wants to put some biscuit things in the springs like they did on cars when he was a kid but I advised against that. I don't know what he will do but we will see. I'll post when something developes.
