Default 1989 YJ cannot shift into 4low??

So my stepdad has a 1989 YJ and he cannot get it to shift into 4low. He can go from 2wd to 4wd no problem but not 4low. Hes been doing more wheelin with me and really needs to grab his low gear, any suggestions on things we could look for or try?

Have y'all got under it and looked at the linkage on the transfer case it may need to be adjusted I wish I could remember how yj's looked under there I think there is a bar that goes into a plate for the shifter I've seen them pop out, but I can't remember to save my life.

No we havent, neither of us have ever worked on these so we are really just looking for a basic place to start and that sounds like a pretty simple place to start. Ill report back after we have a chance to get under there, probably tomorrow as we are going wheelin tomorrow while the wives are shoppin
