Default 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ Tire Question

I got a quick Question about what size tires I should get...

I have a 1999 Jeep wrangler TJ with a 4" Rough Country Lift kit in it and I am unsure what size tires I should get.
Im planning on getting Flat Fender Flares. Im 16 turning 17 in December so my dad has a lot of "Control" on what I put into the Jeep and he is telling me I shouldn't go any higher than 33" tires but I want to get 35". I was wondering what everyones opinion was on what size tires I should get. I know for a fact that I am getting Dick Cepek Extreme Country tires and getting 16" Fuel Assault Rims.

4" is a pretty high lift. It will accommodate 35" tires but you need to consider other factors other than the lift. With 35" tires you would put a lot of stress on the axles and other components which would need to be upgraded as well, costing quite a bit of money. If you have the D35 rear that could be an issue as well. Also gearing is a big issue. Is it a 4.0 or the 4cyl? If it's the 4cyl you won't be able to go very fast with 35" tires, even the 4.0 would be slowed down a bit on grades and hills unless you upgraded gearing. It all ads up quickly. If all you can afford is the wheels and tires -- you're dad is giving you good advice.

You may want to go to jeep forum or wrangler forum -- there is a ton more information on the TJ's on those with lots of threads and charts dedicated to what's needed/recommended to run each size of tire.

With the 33" tires would I still have the same problems as with the 35"s? Also its the 4cyl...

You will still lose power without regearing for sure, but not as much as you would on 35's. I suspect it would be pretty much a dog with 33's without regearing. 33's are not as heavy as 35's so not as much strain on components, but they will not last forever, especially if you wheel it (thinking of the D35 on the rear).

As of right now I have completely new suspension components and almost a completely new frame, I am planning on keeping this jeep for a long time so im planning on doing an axle swap of some sort, dropping a Inline Straight 6 with a 5 speed manual transmission in it, with that I will need to get a new drive shaft and all that fun stuff so as long as it will make it until i get around to doing these upgrades I guess thats all im worried about. I am planning on wheeling a bit but not an excessive amount, I just moved into 17 acres of woods and im planning on making trails in my yard but thats about it. nothing too difficult. Thanks for the help!!!
