Default 89 YJ leaf spring lift question??

My stepdad just installed a BDS 2.5" leaf spring lift on his 89 YJ and it now has hardly any flex and rides VERY rough, the kit came with new shocks too. He did tighten the shackle bolts while the jeep was in the air and we are wondering if he should of let it sit on the ground before he tightened those, could that be the issue? Or is it possible to just over tighten the shackle bolts and cause this rough ride issue? I cant seem to find any good info on other forums

thanks!

To be honest those springs take awhile to brake in,with that being said. He does need to loosen the shackle bolts and retorq them on the ground,He put a preload on the bushings by tightening them in the air. If he still has both front and rear trac bars on those need to be removed and sold for scrap. No need for them they limit flex and you need all the help you can get with a yj. Shocks can cause some of the harsh ride but your on leafs so ride isnt great. Of course un hook the sway bar off road. For those who will say keep the trac bars. I have not had them on for 5 years or so. I dont run a front swar bar or steering stabilizer either. If you front end is in good condition there is no need. I can go down the highway a 65 to 70 without any ill effects. BTW that is with a tail wind!

My personal YJ does like 75-80 on the highway but that is on a trailer being pulled by my truck.
