why not pop the shocks loose and take it for a slow ride. it may be your springs are too stiff.

 

Don't have the stock springs (i would if I did)

 

That is my plan for this weekend, check the shocks (frozen or toast) and drive with only the springs.

I am a JK but I have been doing alot of reading on YJ's.

From what I have read thus far, Pro Comp is stiff to begin with, but if you are not getting any compression when you stand on the bumper and jump up and down then your shocks are toast or you need to eat more.

When you are talking budget and suspension they are hard to put in the same discussion. You get what you pay for and that is why I am considering a BDS suspension for my Dad's YJ.

I would reccomend Bilstien, or MX6. Check out shockwarehouse.com . They have some competitive pricing.

Sorry i missed this thread. I have a 95 yj. BDS springs are the way to go imo. It took about two years of offroad abuse for the ride and the flex to come in. But it rides decent. Don't take this the wrong way but yj's ride on horse and buggy techology. There is only so much that can be done. Just to give you a idea on how good the springs are. I can drive at 75 mph on the highway with no sway bar,trac bars or steering stabilizer. I also found a good set of seats can help out. After 15 years there not much left of the padding. New seat made a difference. Nick-

 

The Procomps are notorious for being stiff as h***. I have a 95yj with procomp 2.5" with es3000 shocks and it is stiff. When I get the Cash, thinking of the BDS or OME.

Even sock yj's ride like a train! With a 4" lift, I doubt you would be able to compress the springs by jumping on it. I had a 4" Rubicon express in my YJ and I had go see a chiropractor after about 2 months of riding around in it. You might try white lithium grease on the pads between the springs. If they aren't sliding the springs can't compress.
