neutral safety switch
HELP!!!! My jeep won't start!! I turn the key on and try to crank it but does nothing. No sounds, no clicks. I took the starter and battery off and had them checked they are good. I bought new relays and changed them out in the automatic shut off relay and starter relay that did not help. Tried to start in neutral did not start. The backup lights work! Not sure what to do but was told that it sound like it is the neutral safety switch. I looked in the hayne manual to find out where it is but I can not make heads or tail where it is or what it looks like. The manual says it is for older models but what is older models when the book goes from 1987-2008 and my jeep is a 2004 wrangler X automatic 4.0. If anyone can help please do so I am wanting to fix it myself because I do not want to pay a bunch of money for something I could have done myself.
Thank you
Thank you
check your ignition switch. Well not actually the switch but a very small pin inside the column that connects the key cylinder to the ignition switch itself. My neighbor has this same problem. He just separated the two and just uses a screwdriver to start his now.
Hope this is NOT it since it requires a new steering column.

Get a test light and attach the clip to ground and the needle end to the small wire on the starter solenoid. Have someone crank the engine and see if it lights up. If it doesn't, you're not getting power to it and go from there.
