So, there we were, about to get off work, when they come up...Boss, we got the Van stuck...A Mercedes Van, stuck in the mud. SO we get in the JK, and head out, and sure as shit, they have it stuck in the mud...so about a hour of pulling it out, as soon as it hits "dry" land, and able to go on its own, there is a "thud" on my jeep. The engine revs, but there is no engagement on either driveshaft. I turn it off, and turn it on...nothing for foward or backwards. Its a manual tranny, and I can put it in each of the gears with no clutch...so I'm thinking either a part of the clutch broke...but can't think of anything specific....any ideas?

On the plus side, one of my coworkers, who just got a brand new JK Willys, was able to extract me from the situation and put me back in the parking lot....

 

Did you press the clutch while in the mud? You may have gotten mud/water in the transmission...

 

For those that care, completely toasted the clutch...lesson learned, no pull out in 4H.

 

Then the question is: who pays for the new clutch? This is the very reason most companies do not want an employee to use personal equipment for work tasks.

 

I am...I'm senior enough to know better, and I'm responsible for my actions...all disclosed before this happened.

 

What caused the clutch to go?

 

Manual transmission, 4H, pulling out a van in mud. Dumbassery on my part and the guys that got the van stuck. Learning experience for all.

 

how is 4hi not the right thing to do? 4lo would be better? or in 2wd.... I don't see how you messed up by using 4hi, it could of happened in any drive...

 

not sure, but got the new clutch in 2 days ago, should be back ready to rock n' roll by wednesday!
