Does it make sense that energy from the coax could light the brake light.
I've seen 4 watts light up a flourescent light bulb, so I'm bankin on RF. I'd check the wiring to be safe, but other than that, damn if I'd worry about it.

The trouble is if he used the CB on the street there could be a problem with other drivers

Yeah true....but does he NEED it on the street? If so, then he probably needs to move the antenna. ......perhaps like a lot of other people.

Its real close to the light.

But maybe it is a good thing for getting moving tailgaters.

I will be checking grounds again this weekend. Right now it is in the garage until I can clean it out from the trail run this last weekend.

I would get power from another source. Like maybe the rear wiper/washer that way on you talk on the CB at least you'll have a clean rear window. Hope you find your problem.....

Just curious, how much power are you running ?? As stated above it sounds like stray RF which is not your friend..

I would start by running your power and ground from the radio directly to the battery, then a chasis ground from the back of your radio to the frame of the Jeep certainly wouldn't hurt either....Another ground from your antenna mount to the Jeeps frame would also be a good idea....If your running an amp I suggest you stop until the entire Jeep is properly grounded before fry the Jeeps computer with stray RF....

I'm thinking its because I have the coax running along the wire that feeds the brake light and have them zip tied together.

But I am not an electrical engineer so the stray RF thing is not something that I understand, much less how to find out what it is.

Isnt the dash plug wired directly to the battery already? The reason I ask this is because when I was using a hand held unit plugged into the switched plug when talking it would drive the guages crazy and when plugged into the battery one everything was fine. Since I installed this CB I have tried both plugs and neither one has driven the guages crazy. But I only plug the new CB into the battery one.

Anyway I have some checking to do this weekend. So if you guys can explain stray RF it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Get a lens that reads, "ON THE AIR".
