use it without the antenna and it'll fry it. It's not hard to set up and run the coaxil cable.

This CB thing just sounds like to much work, you might even have to install a good RF ground to make it work correctly...
I would recommend one of these....

No, he didn't... at the moment i was asking about the CB without the antenna or the coax or anything... the question now is if, having the coax and the ground and everything installed, i can use the CB for PA without the stick only... with the stick disconnected. If i am planning to use only the PA, i still have to have the stick, screwed in?
To be more specific, i ordered the ultra mount from cooltech, so, after installing the complete kit, if i am gona be using only the PA, i still have to make sure the antenna stick is screwed in place?

glad you took that the way I meant it,,,

I would never transmit w/o the antenna even if it was via a PA... maybe this would be a question for a CB manufactuer. ??? My guess is they wouldn't warranty it.
also when you get your antenna hooked up make sure you have a good RF ground.. which usually requires a 12awg wire of ground braid from the antenna bracket (mount) to the jeeps frame. this is why alot of people install the antenna off the bumper area it's a shorter ground path the the frame. if you go to the tub then you have to connect the tub to the frame. The tub is a poor ground.

lol

well... i am purchasing the cooltech ultra mount... so i guess it will come with everything i need, including the ground and installation instructions.
I am coming to the obvios conclusion that every time i want to turn on my radio, for any use, i'm gonna have to have my antenna hooked up. I like the ook of the jeep with the red antenna, so, that will be no problem

Thank you guys!

Like I sad before....if you didn't want to have an antenna, you could hook up a small dummy load and be fine using the pa if there is a concern that rf will still be flowing from the radio.

To get an idea, here are a few that are cheap: https://www.ridgeequipment.com/store/dummyloads.html

Radio Shack may even have one. But you said you have an antenna coming so I guess I won't worry about it anymore.....

Sorry I didn't make it very clear. All I know is my PA will let you hear the incoming signals which means the antenna should be hooked up or otherwise it would try to receive with no antenna. I don't know about receiving signals but outgoing signals with wrong SWR (IE: no antenna) will fry your shit!! I did make it clear for a person with some CB logic and understanding, hope this helps good luck!! The above post is also correct but why not be able to broadcast with CB and use the handhelds as backups?

Everything is clear now, please understand this is my first time ever dealing with cb radios, two way radios, antennas and all that stuff. The antenna is already on the way and, yes, now that i understand everything that is how i'm going, broadcast will be with the cb, and the handhelds will be for backups or mobility away from the jeep.

Thanx for your help.
