Can i use CB Radio Without external antenna?
I only gave you that link to give you an idea of what I was talking about. I guess you didn't see that little $7.50 one that you could screw right into the back of the radio? That would have been all you needed for what you said you wanted to to.
Guys... i am installing my Cobra and Ultramount Kit tomorrow... i am having a real hard time finding a SWR Meter anywhere near and ordering online is not a quick option (remember i don't live in the US and a one day shipping is not a One Day shipping for me). What could go wrong if i just install everything and leave the tunning for later? How bad could be if anything goes wrong? What if i never do the tunning?
Sorry for still asking about CBs and antennas... is not that easy for us noobies here in my country with not so many options.
thnx

One idea, do a google search on HAM clubs and or amateur radio clubs and I bet you could find someone in your area to help you, offer up some beer...
or goto a HAM forum, QRZ dot com, or eham and you could probably find someone there that lives close by.
If you have everything installed correctly your SWR will probably start around 2-2.5 but how will you know if things are installed without some fault in the setup...etc. results could be a blown radio..
That's what I would do especially knowing HAMs, very helpful people....
edit; just because you can receive others doesn't mean everything is good to go. It's a lot easier to receive then transmit and you can receive with faults in the system.

Thank you. I'll be ordering my SWR Meter from amazon and wait until i can fine tune everything.
here's is an example, I setup my CB and used some coax that I had no reason to think was bad but it had a short in it and my SWR was around 2.7 across the band. Now will 2.7 blow a radio's finals, that really
depends on the quality of the radio, probably not but if it's on long enough etc.... yea it could...
depending on the antenna you have, if it's a tuneable tip it could range from 3 or so to 1 depending on the tips placement, if a cut the tip to tune it will start out high so you can cut to tune per your setup....
it's worth waiting.

Sorry for not having a different answer but this is what really should be done.

Guys, what kind of fuse do i have to install near the battery to protect from a short on the wire from the cb? Cylinder or two legs? How many amps, 2? 3? 5?
I'm getting ready for my install this weekend
(CB is a cobra 19 IV)
And another (crazy?) question: can i put a little red thread locker on the antenna to protect from being stolen? Will that affect signal or ground?
