Default CB antenna flag

i am planning on putting a 4 foot Firestik CB antenna on my JK with a rear tire mount...would that setup support a flag? any other suggestions on a better CB antenna for a flag?

I've been told thats a bad idea in general. but I've also been told that driving around without doors is a bad idea too

bad idea. The firestick is too rigid and may snap.

Whether or not it's an awful idea really depends on the size of the flag. A 3'x5' flag will snap the antenna. A flag the size you get handed to wave during a parade, probably not. Regardless, as Vin notes, it's a bad idea; at any kind of speed, you'll be putting much more stress on the antenna mount than that for which it's designed, because the flag will add exponentially more drag. I suggest you decide which is more important: Reliable communication or visual statements.

Cheers,

Bob

I run a flag on my k40 cb antenna and have no issues. I use the small flags that come on the wooden stick. I remove the flag from the wood stick and attach with zip ties. Here's an old pic.

I think you would be O.K. as long as you proportioned the flag to the antenna. The weak link of any of the fiberglass antennas is how much flexing will the fiberglass allow before breaking. You could use a wilson 2000 or k40 antenna with a stainless shaft. You would not have any problem with this setup guaranteed.

I'm running a 2x3 flag off of a 4' fiberglass rod. It's alot more flexible than my Firestik. I bought the whole set up at aditude gear dot com. It's for off road flags.

In this pic, they (4' Firestik and flag) are mounted to a Teraflex tailgate mount which has 2 holes.

I know that the firestik site says that if you put a flag on it you should re-adjust the antenna. Having it on there will throw your SWR off. Being that they didn't say don't do it, your probably pretty safe.
