Alrighty, so after establishing that I had a good ground, I just got done tweaking my SWR. I was able to get a 1.7 on channels 1 & 40 and a 1.3-4 on channel 19. I fiddled with it for about a half an hour. I'm not looking for range as much as I am quality for shorter trail riding scenarios. Any feedback is welcome.

I've never worried about waterproofing the connections. On the jeep I remove the antenna and radio except for trail days, but in my big rig(I'm a truck driver) I just make sure all connections are tight. My mirror mounts get a lot more water/salt that your rear mount will and I've never had a problem.

That's great to hear. I'm more worried about them rusting very quickly and looking like shit than anything else.

The only thing I've had rust on my antenna mounts have been the bolts. I'm hoping yours are stainless?
