Default CB antenna spring

I am using a firestik side mount with a 4ft firestik antenna. What are you guys feelings on an antenna spring.

They can certainly help out when the antenna slaps off of something on the trail (or when you forget to take it off before going into a garage!)

I would recommend a heavy duty spring with the 4ft; I have the 4ft firestick on a medium spring and it likes to sway back and forth quite a bit.

My buddy had a spring on his plate mount Firestik. He took the spring off because the backlash from branches caused it to beat up the side of his Jeep.

I got a 5' firestik 2 with a 3" hd spring. It flops all over but I'd hate to see what all the tree branches and 75mph hiway speeds would do to just the fiberglass of the antenna alone

I have the FS Side mount kit with a HD spring>Quick Disconnect>4' Wilson antenna in that order.
So far so good. No problems at 80+ on the highway or crawling on the trail.
Reception is outstanding and the SWR is well within range.

I run a tennis ball on mine to keep it from beating the crap out of the hard top.
