I think in theory 16 will perform slightly better than 4, since most people tune the antenna for 19 (the middle of the 1-40 range).

We used to use Channel 4 off road, but switched to 16 because of local interferance on 4.

When on the road I am on 19, because I like to hear the big rigs give traffic and speed trap reports.

Havent been with a group offroad yet but when on the road, the cb I have can scan two channels and I usually have it set to scan 15 & 19.

This thread should be long dead, I'm reviving it.

the following channels are listed as common channels according to wikipedia.

Ch - Frequency - common use
4 - 27.005 - 4x4
6 - 27.025 - Modified users (Illegal)
9 - 27.065 - Emergency Channel
14 - 27.125 - Walkie Talkies
19 - 27.185 - Trucker channel
>30 - various - common for SSB users

Does anyone have a better list of CB channels? I plan on using 4 on the trial and 19 on the highway.

Also going to necro this thread to add that lower 16 was used by side banders as a call channel. And in some parts of Canada channel 13 is used by the French speaking truckers.

14 makes sense for walk-in talkies as years ago many only shipped with crystals for channel 14.
