CB or Ham
Ok, here's the issue. My old (and free) hand-me-down CB has finally bit the dust. I'm looking to replace it but not sure what to get. I have recently started looking into getting my FCC license to operate a HAM radio. I don't want to necessarily purchase and install both. Is it possible to communicate over HAM on the CB frequencies/channels? I would assume yes, but don't want to assume anything.
Any help or advice would be great.

You can use one radio to communicate on both bands, but its illegal.
If your thinking about getting a ham license, go for it.
The exam really isnt that hard and there are sites that will help study.
Just google ham practice test and you ll get a bunch of sites.
I know of several people that are using a handheld cb for trails
and a hard wired ham radio.
Hope this helps.

most of our group has hams which we like because there isn't all the cb chatter and if there's an emergency we can get the word out on a repeater. when we do larger events it lets us communciate with other runs in the area better. we have a lot of outside people at the events who only have cb's, so we all have both. some don't have anything which isn't good.
