Default CB not working help ! !!!!!

Hey guys this is my first time posting -- of all the times iv been on here I've learned a lot about my jeep and what I can do to it !! Matter fact this is where I got the idea of putting a CB in !!!
So I installed my Cb ,the cobra I9dx IV installed my firestick " 6 footer " with the firestick cable !! The antenna is mounted on the gate , unfortunately I didn't tune the antenna just yet -- but I feel like there's more to it then that ! I don't seen to be receiving - nor transmitting anything ? What could it be ! Like not even small chatter - "local" I now I need to buy a SWR meter to get the rating down to 1 or as best as I can ! -- I know there's a lot of talk where I live because my friend has one and here like ever freckn trucker !! Lol and here I go with this awesome set up and there's nothing ! Any ideas guys.
Any help would be great !!
Thanks guys !

Best bet to test it prior to hooking up an SWR is to go to a truck stop. Prior to tuning mine I got almost nothing, just a little static and some skip. However, if I went near a large gas station/truck stop it would would great. You may be too far from any radio traffic.

I tested it there. Usually a wide, open place is best to tune.
