Default cb use now days!

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum. I finally put a CB in my Jeep, and I read a lot of Jeep guys and recreational people use them. I'm from Utah and its amazing how quiet the stations are! I remember when the stations were so crowded you couldn't get a word in. I was wondering if any of you guys still have a lot of activity on your cb's, it was fun hearing what people had to say on there long hauls!!!

Generally most traffic is on CH 19. Truckers and Off-roaders are the majority of what is left. I have always wished the off-road community would pick a standard channel like the truckers did. I would leave it on all the time if that were the case.

Were you always operating from Utah? Channel density is directly proportional to population density. If you're in New Jersey, you can expect to hear more than, say, Montana. Plus CB use has fallen off since the wide availability of FRS and GMRS VHF/UHF unlicensed radios.

Cheers,

Bob

Yea always been from Utah! Its pretty populated and I live like 2 minfrom the freeway. I was thinking cell phone Skype and GPS made cb's not very common but for recreation use its great!

Undoubtedly it's a great resource! However, I just think it's going the way of the 1970s. If you can buy a pair of FRS or GMRS handheld radios for $50 and just clip it to your sunvisor, why would you go through the hassle of installing a complete mobile HF setup for CB? Look at all the threads on this board alone regarding installation - where to put the radio, how to install/tweak the antenna system, etc. It's a no-brainer - a FRS/GMRS handheld, entirely self-contained, and single-ear headset will let you communicate often at longer ranges than CB. And you don't get foul-mouthed truckers talking about nasty things when they're bored; that can be important if you have kids in your Jeep.

Cheers,

Bob

Man, now I'm feeling like a dirty old man as that's half the reason I'm installing a CB!
