Cobra 29 LX Install
Thought you guys may like to see some pics of my Cobra 29 LX install.
I started off with a Tuffy overhead mount, but had to modify it a bit. My 29 LX is "modified" and has a big heat sink in the rear and the face of the unit under the tuning knob is rounded. To get it to fit/look right, I had to cut a square out of the back of the mounting tray, mount the CB bracket to the bottom tray and drill some holes in the side. I also removed the flip down locking door.
I then fabricated a small piece of metal and installed it above the CB. This hides the gap when it is mounted. Flat black paint matches perfectly.
I routed the wiring out of the back of the Tuffy and down the window frame.
I had the CB Shop solder in a MIC connector in the back of the unit and fabricated a 6 ft. extension wire. This enabled me to mount the MIC plug under the steering wheel for easy access. I hate having the mic wire swinging back and forth in front of my face on a trail.
Here's a pic of what it looks like after the install.
Finally, I used the Ultramount License Plate Frame bracket, but didn't use their wiring or antenna mounting stud. I ran RG8X coax and soldered on gold plated PL259's.

Great job, I have been looking for a pic of the 29lx in the tuffy. I have the cb and it is too big to have mounted on the side of the center console. Not to mention I worry about with the doors off.

The remote install is easy. I had the CB Shop install a rear mic jack and make up the extension cable. Most CB Shops can do this. I love it. I hate having the cord swinging in front of my face on a trail.
