Default Cobra 75 install help please

I just finished putting my Cobra 75 in that same spot (glovebox bracket) and haven't wired as yet. I've looked and so far the only entry point into the engine compartment I can see is on the drivers side (used that to run my light wires).

Here's the question. Is there an access point into the engine compartment passenger side that I've overlooked? If so where the heck is it?

I there's no other access point other than the one on the drivers side then it looks like I need to add a heck of a lot of wire to reach the battery. Suggestions?

I'll post pictures just as soon as the CB install is done.

Thanks in advance

Windshield Hellas went on easy
CB is almost there
Lockpick is next on the list

I ran mine through a grommet on the passengerside.

First, I started by braiding my red (+) POWER and black (-) GROUND wires. Hint on this, take two wires of the same length, tie one end of the wires off on an object and connect the other end into a power drill like you were putting a drill bit in, and use the drill to braid your wires...keeps your install super clean.

Next, I started at the battery. Leaving plenty of extra wire to add ring connectors later, I dropped the braided wire between the battery tray and the A-Pillar in a narrow gap. It should come out behind the front passengerside tire--you may have to reach up under the cover between the wheel well and the firewall. If you reach your hand far enough up, you will feel a rather large rubber grommet. I ran the braided wires into the grommet and they come out underneath the dash, behind the A/C assembly.

All in all, I think it was a total of about 4'-5' of wire. I don't have any pics, but I'll try to get you some tomorrow if this didn't make any sense.

I second the cig. lighter. The driver side is switched. It's rated for 15 amps I think, a cb doesn't pull more than a couple of amps.

I have my Cobra 75 hooked up to the cigarette lighter. The blue/pink wire, which you can barely reach by pulling the bottom panel on the center/forward console, is switched power. Use a T-splice to tap into it. Some folks claim that you'll suffer alternator/spark noise if you don't go directly to the battery. I have not (though when I charge my laptop I get some strange noises--but that's not something I do very often).

If you'd rather run to the battery, there's supposed to be a similar hole on the passenger's side to this one that I used on the driver's side for aux lights:

Thank you all for the great response in a short period. So there is another access point on the passenger side! I'll look for it again today.

Haven't installed the Lockpic yet but looking at the wiring harness I see they also include a couple switched and unswitch 12volt portals as well as a ground (they say these can be used to power things such as radar detectors etc.). While I prefer the battery, has anyone used these wires in their Lockpic to connect a CB? Just think out loud here...

Again a big thanks to all

Don

Just finished the install and wanted to thank everyone especially toad for the link and pictures.

Just completed installing Hella Black Magic on the windshield mounts I mounted the switch on the A-pillar,
Painted the glaring white lens covers,
Installed the CB, antenna and Versamount kit I got from Cool Tech
And finally the Lockpick. Now my Jeep radio performs as well as my wife's Ford Edge radio. The only thing missing is the weather information but I have hopes that it will be available soon.

Yeah I know this thread sucks without pictures and I promise them in an update in a couple days.

Thanks again for all the help

Don

Take the panel off that's located on the right-hand side of the dash. Look towards the front of the JK and you will see a hole filled with expanding foam. Use a 1' length of metal coat hanger to fish the cable through and directly into the engine compartment. It's a super easy, direct run to the battery.
