cobra 75 messing with my electronics
i went out tonight to try to solve this crap. checked swr: perfect after some minor adjustment since the hardtop was put back on. disconnected all accessories including winch. connected cb to different battery. grounded coax by antenna with extra 16awg wire. check all cb connections. checked coax for damage. nothing changed the fact that the cb is still messing with my Jeep! I've had it working fine for months and all of a sudden it sucks. ill get the diode from radio shack tomorrow and add it to my power line. i wonder if my LED interior/reverse lights have something to do with this?? I'm very close to just posting my cb in the classified forum if i can't figure this out.

Try bonding your frame to the Body... etc.
if your antenna is mounted off your tailgate run a ground strap to the frame, I ran a strap to the body and then ran a strap from the frame to the body, on both sides of the rear of the jeep.
I also ran a ground strap from the engine to the frame, very close to were the battery is grounded.
goldtr8 posted a few links, bonding is the key.... albeit you shouldn't have to do has much as the higher power HAM guys have too. This allows me to transmit 100W on HAM freqs, and I have no issues with the CB.
here are some areas to think about bonding.
bonding the tailgate.

bonding in the rear, frame to body, to complete the tailgate bond Both sides of rear.

added strap to the left

also bonded transmission to frame.

I'm using a handheld with no external antenna a handheld with AA batteries
It triggered my dash!!!!!
Fig that one out Mr Bond!!!
I had the same issues as you guys, last weekend i was out wheeling in the rain and my raido went out and a seconed later every light on the dash light up and then everything went out . two seconeds later the raido came back on and everything was normal, hasent happened since. I have a midland hand held cb with a cigg lighter plug in. I thought it was a short in the jeep, but its nice to here its not just me this happened to. I just bought a permanent uniden cb , putting it in today I will let you know if it happens with this one. fingers crossed it doesnt

I have a perment CB mounted and it does it constant.
I tried yesterday a handheld using batteries not attached to my jeep in anyway, and still occasional happened again.
Today I am going to try different frequency ranges besides the lower ones. Plus I may try removing my keyless FOB battery to eliminate that system.
It's called EMI, (radiation susceptibility) do some research. Company's spend thousands of dollars working on EMI issues that are caused by interference from other electronics (in your case a hand held CB). grounding and shielding is one of the key items that help solve this problem. The Jeep has very poor grounding.
will it work in your case? maybe, maybe not.
Have fun with your EMI issue and spend lots of time doing things that don't matter.
later
