Default Cobra 75wxst question

I was just getting ready to purchase one of these and find out there are 2 models, both with the same part #.

Which is the one I want? Walcott has one for $109.95 and then one they call The dash mount mod version for $149.95.....

do I need the more expensive one or does the cheaper one work through the dash also?

I think their dash mount mod version is some extra adapter they charge you an arm and a leg for. I'm not 100% on that though...

Hey Chief I got mine from quadratec I think 119, it comes with the quick disconnect that you mount to dash. Just like Wayland said I believe the one on walcott for 149 is some extra thing you dont really need.

Not trying to hijack your thread, but I found another option. I don't really want to drill a hole in my dash for the plug, so I am thinking about this from Midland. It comes with battery pack, charger, mobile adapter that includes a plug that plugs right into the power port and the antenna lead. It even includes an antenna. You can use it as a mobile or a hand held with the battery pack. They are under 100 bucks on Ebay.

Ive been thinking about buying one here: claysradioshop.com/cobra75wxst.htmThey custom tune it for an extra $25 to get more power output. I also found one here for cheaper: weatherconnect.com/product.asp?itmky=242794&cat=135

Ive read reviews on the Midland and they say its not near as good as the Cobra. Weak sound quality, weak reception etc.

The majority of reviews I looked at today are positive. Any hand held will suck with the provided antenna. Using a standard mobile antenna, reviews seem very positive. I read the ones I saw off of Amazon. There were some bad reviews, but not many. Where did you see them?

Most of the bad ones I saw were about reception. They nearly always went on to state though that with an external antenna the unit was very good.
