Default Cooltech Gatemount...ground??

To those with the Cooltech gatemount...how are you grounding your antenna? Does the little Firering and all that incorporate the ground? I have read the directions a few times and I just can't figure out why I have the little ground wire and where it should go...I am totally new to CB radio. Also, all the pics online only show the cable from the coax as being the only connection. I'm confused. And I don't have a tire carrier on my JK, so I am not sure if that makes a difference? Anyone want to help?

Just installed the full Cool Tech Kit.

Mounted mine without the extra ground wire. Seams to ground just fine on the bracket mounted to the tailgate.I tuned it with the SWR and it works great. Picking up and broadcasting several miles.

I've talked with a few people (one owns a HAM and commercial radio shop, one owns a CB shop that caters to truckers) about this. They've both suggested to me that the tire carrier mounts do a pretty good job of providing a ground.

The additional ground that BCRouse put into place can only help - it'll make a good thing better...but I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

That 1/4" chunk of stainless is bolted to the tailgate in two spots with stainless bolts, and the tailgate provides pretty reasonable connection to the rest of the vehicle is terms of an RF ground.

If you want to go all-out, I suppose you could start adding a ground strap or two between the tailgate and the tub, but I think that unles you're running some pretty serious antennas that you'd be well into the realm of overkill.
