One thing I would like for that I did not, and now wish I had. And, that is back lit buttons. I have a Yaesu and love the radio, it is a FT8800R. Once I memorized the keys it was not too bad, but on all of these smaller radios, naturally the keys are smaller and closer together. Other than what is mentioned above, its a great rig. I would think that any of the current model dual band units from Icom, Yaesu, or Kenwood would be fine. I bet if you compared features, they would all come up really close. A good place for reviews, and they are from Hams, not some review writer, is Eham.net. Good luck.

I am in the same boat as the OP...
Does anyone have any suggestions for a good HAM UHF/VHF mobile radio that is suited for a JK installation? I would be interested to know more of approprite rear bumper mount for a shrockworks rear bumper and antenna(s) as well.
There is so much information out there that it is an overload to try and sort it. I was hoping to find someone with some real-world experience with this type of radio and antenna.

I was thinking of a Yeasu FT7900R or an Icom IC208H?
NO IDEA what the best antenna(s) would be?

I have a HAM General license, soon to be an Extra, and several commercial marine radio licenses, but I am without clue when it comes to land mobile radios.
I think that I will not be putting a CB in my JK for a variety of reasons... just sticking with HAM radios... Unless I can freeband an HF HAM radio to Tx on CB

Do you use an auto tuner? May I ask what brand?
