Engine Interference
Hi all,
Today I installed my new Cobra 75 (Thanks David and the Northridge crew!) and calibrated it via SWR. We got it dialed in good but.... When the engine is running I have to turn up the squelch a bit to block out the interference when the engine is running. I have not been able to raise anyone on the CB, most of the signals I hear are very weak and none have responded to my test transmissions.
So, how much interference is normal and how do I test the range? Do I just keep calling on various channels until some one answers?
Thanks,
Derek

Hi,
No the back ground noise is not RPM dependent, I just have to turn the squelch up when the motor is turning. On the little LCD bar graph, the RX scale goes up to 3-7 while driving but when the engine is off it's a 1-3.
I'm going into Tacoma today (I live in a rural area) so I will try to raise some truckers to test the distance.

Hi all,
Dave, thanks for the links. I was able to do some testing on Interstate 5 Tacoma yesterday and all seems to be good. I was able to raise one guy and we were able to talk for about 3 miles in distance. In the port area I did some more radio checking and some truckers in the loading area of the port were able to hear me, which was about 2 miles or so. I haven't been able to do a true distance test, but the CB works!
