Default Field Day 2009

What are you doing for Field Day?

Field Day is a weekend where licensed amateur radio operators operate from a remote location parking lot, park, camp ground; using off the grid power batteries, solar, generators, etc…
This is an on-the-air event held every year the 4th weekend of June; it is part educational, part public relations, and part operations. It’s a way to show the public what amateur radio is about.

The club I belong to will start holding planning meetings early this month.

Sounds like an excellent excuse for me to go camping.

Our local Club is going to operate from the grounds of the Historic Coast Guard Station here on St. Simons Island. We have secured the Special Event Callsign N4S.

Hope to hear you on the air.

Yeah that sounds about right... I plan on going to Falcon Lake Texas for some fishing and camping. I will be taking my ft897d and try to work HF and some local repeaters as well as my ft817 and try to get some qrp. So far I've managed to put together an hf pack for the 817 which includes batteries and solar panels. I have a deep cycle batt for the 897 and the ATAS 120A as ant. I've tested it at home and have made some decent contacts. I have not decided if I want to take a generator yet or not. I would like to operate pedestrian/backpack mobile as much as possible.
