Default Ground strap locations

those of you that have installed ground straps all over your Jeep where did you put them and how did you secure them?

so far I have two in the rear, right and left side (like the 1st pic shows) I used a tap and star washer to bite into the metal. and one to the tranny (pic 2 & 3)
I also have a hose clamp ran through a 1" gnd braid connected to the exhast pipe.
I also have a 1" starp running from the tailgate to the body behind the stereo cover. last pic and this one I wonder if I should redo it installing lugs and attaching it somewhere else, maybe to a bolt...?

I was going to do more and was just wondering where some of you put them..

thoughts and any pics of what you did would be great.. This is something that once you do a strap you just want to leave it... but I wondering if I'm doing it good enough..

thanks

I bonded in 38 diffrent spots (what you are doing is bonding not grounding)

Just look and see what you think MIGHT not have great contact with another metal part (front quarter panels, Suspension, rear axel, frame to engine, bumpers to frame because they are painted before they go on) and bond it.

yep been to his site several times..
but it's always nice to see what and how other guys did..
I talked to a very experienced HAM at a swap meet a few weeks ago and he basically didn't like anything I had done on where I mounted my antenna's.... etc... he wanted me to mount them off the panel by the windshield wipers... I told him no I wasn't going to do that.. so he gave me another suggestion and I might think about it.
I think having them off the tailgate is a good spot I just have to get the bonding better for the HAM HF freqs at higher power. CB works fine and I never really use the thing anyhow... so far I think CB's are a waste on money.
thanks

you are correct.. Bonding. Bonding and more Bonding... and then even more Bonding.
Thanks... I'll keep doing what I'm doing. I guess I need to look better on how to secure these to say the axle etc.... the body and frame I drilled into and tapped to help the bonding..
I think I'll also improve the tailgate strap. been thinking that one isn't to good.

I bought a few from a HAM Swap met for $1 each... should have bought all of what he had... as he had a lot of them... I think I bought 4... and have used all but one. different sizes....
Went to same swap meet a few weeks ago and he wasn't there.... maybe he'll be at the next one.
So now I'm making my own. I got some braid from an electronics surplus store and I found some lugs at Home Depot. I'm crimping them on... I have two different size braid and some heat sink...
if you need some I can probably get you some... it's a lot cheaper then off the internet... PM me if you do and I can see what I can do...

cheers

So I added more. one on the lift side just beneath the drivers door. I used a bolt that holds on the rock rails and tapped into the frame.

then I attempted to upgrade the OEM strap which I would say is part of the problem. The OEM strap is a joke. here is a picture of it... very thin. picture doesn't show how thin it is .. you can see thru it..

So I mounted my strap as close to the area the factory one is on the engine side. and of course I put the nut back on....

then into the engine compartment... not much room to work. I placed it as close to the battery ground stud as I could without drilling into the frame.
bolt on the left... the battery bolt is to the right..

I added another strap to the tailgate.

any comments from those bonding experts?
I didn't get a chance to test 20M at 50 plus W..

Looks good I bonded both front quarters just like you had shown there. Maybe your transmission too at there is a gasget and thread locking stuff on the bolts to the engine.

Did you say you had the muffler bonded because that can be a HUGE cause of RFI in jk's. Maybe even think about the Bows of your soft top (My next project) with some hidden 12g wire. With the Bows being close to your antenna that might help keep them from being a problem.

Only thing I haven't /can't bond is the doors. I like to take em off too much and haven;t found a solution with quick d/c's that isn;t ugly/a pain in the ass.

thanks for the reply.

what I did with the muffler was I took a hose clamp and run it through a braid then clamped it to the back end, about 20" for the end and connected the other side to the frame. I only have done one location like that.. I was thinking of doing that same thing closer to the exhaust intake. can't really drill into the pipe can you?

My soft top is the NX which has only door surrounds... no frame.

I'll probably do the one more exhaust then give it a test...

thanks again just wondered how my bonding compared to others.

Mike

Have you guys noticed a gain in your receiving quality after bonding? I'm in the same boat as a lot of JK owners that I'm getting a lot of rf noise and just started reading about the bonding steps.
