JK CB & HAM RadiosBulletin board forum regarding all topics concerning CB and HAM radios, the installation of them in your Jeep JK Wrangler. This would include antenna mounts, wiring, tuning and usage.
As for what I meant, the reading on ch 20 is so close to the readings on the extreme ends of the channels ie 1 and 40. I thought that if you have your antenna tuned for say ch 20 then the channels furthest from that will have a much higher swr.
No....ideally that's what you want. Your antenna should be broad banded enough to cover the 40 channels without having swr extremes on either end. Normally you try to adjust your antenna to get a happy medium in swrs for all 40 channels.....unless you only talk on one channel then you would want the best swr on that particular channel. Because on CB you have 40 channels to work with, antenna makers try to make antennas that have a "range" so to speak, to be able to use all 40 channels. See, each frequency/channel has an ideal size of an antenna to match it, radiate on, then you would have a perfect 1.1 to 1. swr. When you vary off of that channel, that's when you start to get higher srw. Normally the larger the antenna, meaning physical size of the element, the more broad banded it is. Meaning the broader the range of freqs./channels you can talk on. That's why it's always best to have the largest antenna possible for maximum performance.
