Congrats you guys. You are getting into HAM radio at a real good time. What most of us have figured out after years of doing this, is.....get a good radio, but then put all your efforts into real good antennas. Either homebrew or store bought, don't skimp when it comes to antennas as you can have all the power in the world, but if you can't hear the guy coming back to you, then what do you got?
73 & Good Luck....

Congrats on the license.

Are you thinking about the general license as it opens up more frq's to play with.

I am already planning on getting the extra as I am unable to go where I hear action going on.

I would be interested in a HF-JK group. It would be fun to talk about radios, antennas, and jeeps. Not necessarily in that order.

Default Newbie to HAM and to JK's

K7JHP Scramblin_Jim here just saying Hi!

I was inspired a couple months ago to get my HAM license after having a disappointing experience with my CB radio while traveling in the Kofa Mountains/desert near Yuma, AZ. The following weekend I went to a local club in Goodyear and took a crash course and studied like mad that week. The following Saturday I took the test and passed.

I have yet to get on air, or even buy a radio yet. I think sometime this summer I will have the funds together to get a setup for my Jeep(s).

This leads into the second part of my newbie-ism. I have yet to get a JK. Last weekend I went down to the locale Jeep dealer and negotiated a deal and traded in my '07 Mustang convertible. The JK I wanted is 200 miles away at another dealership. Well it now Thursday and I still have no Jeep. I'm about ready to give up on the deal. Seems the Phoenix dealership can't get hold of the Flagstaff dealership. At this point I'm being told the GM at Flagstaff won't give up the vehicle. As the story goes, the owner of the Phoenix dealership has now called the owner of the Flagstaff dealership but he is not responding to the phone messages because he is in Las Vegas. I'm to hear tomorrow what the results will be.

At least I'm not Jeepless and I own a '85 Scrambler.

For now I am cruising around the forum learning all I can about JK Rubicon's and upgrades like adding the CB and HAM radios to the rig.

Question:
Where do you guys physically put the radios? Overhead console?

Cheers,
Jim
