Congrads on passing and getting your ticket,
Personally, Im using a Yaesu HT in the Jeep and it does ok for now.
As far as the radio mount, Iv got a radio mount from Arizona Rocky Road that is attatched overhead and plan on putting the radio there.
There are others on here that will add their installs to help you out.

Get yourself at least a 2M radio and go on the local repeaters. There's always something going on... But watch out... Once you get your first radio, it's very easy to get another and another and another

AF6UA. Been a ham since May 2008. To second the previous remarks, I love my Arizona Rocky Road ("ARR") overhead mount and the ARR antenna mounts that go on the spare tire carrier. If I recall correctly, it was all bolt-on, even running the cables. Not that it matters compared to all the "pinstriping by nature."
Anybody who wants to drive down to Escondido for help installing their radio/antenna, let me know.

Kilo Golf Six Ontario Whiskey Uniform here! I got my Technician ticket in January of '03 and upgraded to General in August of '08. When I upgraded, my wife and son (9yrs at the time) both passed their Technician test... it was a great day. I'm not much of a DX'r since my only rigs are an FT-8900 and VX-5... Some day I hope to change that though.
