Hand Held CB
Now that I have a Cobra 75 in the Jeep I would like to get a hand held. It would be good for a spotter or for getting in touch with somebody back at the camp.
Any recommendations based on experience?
Thank you.

Just unpacked a new Midland 822. Don't know yet if I'll be impressed with the performance, but it is well made and versitile. I like the 3-way power option: A battery holder for disposables, another that can be filled with rechargeables, and a third slide-on connector module that lets the radio plug into a lighter jack for power and also connect to a whip antenna.
There did not seem to be much to choose from. Only saw one other line of hand-helds.
I'd like to have found a really skookum hand-held with RF gain and SSB, but didn't see anything.

Midland 75-822
I have the Midland 75-822. It works great on the trails when in a group, but don't rely on the short antenna mounted on the unit to output much farther than that. The great thing about this unit is it is totally plug and play. When I'm done with it - just unplug and put it away. The battery packs are a nice feature, but again your output isn't that great. I will be getting a external antenna one of these days, but works well the way that it is. I only use it when on trail or in car-a-van (jeep-a-van?) to the trails.
