Help with a Cobra 75 install in my 08 2 dr
I am close to returning this CB kit from Right channel radio. I have followed all the help and cannot get a swr reading below 9. I did have to make an antenna mount due to the Tereflex mount did not fit with my aftermarket rear tire carrier. However I used plate steel painted it and made sure it was grounded. I tested it with my voltage meter and it was fine. I have also made sure the little cb box is grounded under my glove box. I made sure my SWR meter is hooked up correctly. I am at a loss here. Any tricks or anything I could have missed. By the way the antenna is mounted on the TOP of my bumper carrier and I have about a foot or so of antenna above my soft top.
I did try to use a cheap little walkie talkie from midland to see if I can hear myself on the COBRA CB and nothing!
Anything would help.
Thanks

I got mine from Dave at NORTHRIDGE. It works great and your firestik is not an issue and your radio will work fine. I got my SWR at RADIO SHACK. THEY HAVE A GREAT METER. WERE DONE!
I am running the 18ft coax as needed for the 3ft firestick. I also ran the cable from the glove box up through the rollbar to the back through the read door.
I had the same problem, mine ended up being a bad ground. When I had check and ohm out the wiring. Keep checking, if all else fails take it to a CB shop. the problem I had with my Corba, the mic craped out way too soon.
I have set up 3 JKU's with the Cobra WXST and each is using the 4ft Firestick II. Everyone of them end up having a very low SWR reading on the first try with very little tuning needed.
Each one of them are have different antenna mounts and locations and all 3 have the same great results.
The power and ground for the CB is connected to either of the power ports depending on the owner. (Weather or not the CB turns off with the key or can be used at anytime without a key.)
Installation of the small CB receiver box is under the glove box on the bottom side of the metal support rail with the antenna connector pointing toward the passenger door. Attach the coax and start to run the coax from the box along the passenger side of the JK under the trim plastic till you reach the rear passenger side door. Be careful not to pinch, sharply bend or cut the coax in any way. (If you bend the coax to far you will break the solid copper core within it, thus ruining the entire coax.) Once you reach the rear passenger door depending on how much coax you have left will decide the path you take from there. Removing the 3 rear carpet sections makes this much easier. (The floor section and the 2 fender well sides) Mount your antenna and then screw the coax onto the antenna. Now you will run the excess wire in such a way to take up the remainder slack. You can make "S" pattern if you need to to take up the slack but DO NOT COIL\LOOP THE COAX UP IN ANY WAY or WRAP IT AROUND ANYTHING to take up slack this will cause false SWR readings and the CB will work intermittently depending on your physical location! Finally if your antenna mounts to the tailgate, tire swing out or body tub in any way shape or form YOU MUST run a 12ga wire from the antenna mount\bracket to point on the frame of the JK. (It is VERY important to sand\grind all the paint off where the loop connector touches the frame.) The only time you should not need to add the ground wire is when the antenna mount is part of the bumper itself. (Again if it attaches to the spare tire wing gate you WILL need to run a 12ga grounding wire.)

THanks for all the help. You guys had me working. THe FIRESTICK website is fantastic,. Anyone putting a cb in needs to read and read again the Firestick website.
THanks again

They are a piece of cake, power and a ground. The hardest part was running the wires under the carpet and the cable to the back of the jeep. Oh, and putting it in the center console was a bitch as well. Depending on where you place it will determine how easy it goes.
Do not try to be an engineer just follow the directions and you will be fine. Also the Firestick website will help you out. Bottom line do not do like I did. JUST FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS.
