Mobile Ham Question
Do you have any interest in APRS? If so you may want to look at a dual channel like the 8800 or kenwood D710. They cost a bit more but it's better to spend a bit more now than rip and replace like I did. I think you can attach a TinyTrack to the 8800 since you seem to be going towards Yaesu.
edit - Forgot to add with the Dual Channel radios you get the ability to Cross Band Repeat which is a nice little add when using a low power HT.

I havent really given the APRS any thought to be honest with you.
I know some guys have the dual setup like the 8800.
Dont really know if Id use the dual with the HT enough to warrent the extra cost.
YOur right about doing it once though.

I thought about a mount like was posted. Problem is I use both cup holders.
Mounting for the head is more than likely going to be above the mirror and the " brains" mounted behind the rear seat.
Also thought about using the radio mount from Arizona Rocky Road.

RE APRS heres a local run with the APRS beaconing every 3min.. Kinda nice to be able to track where we were (are) and where we went from anywhere realtime. Just another tool to add too the mix.

This was my second radio. I bought an Icom Dual band which i really liked but I ended up wanting APRS.

yes, the Yaesu FTM-10R and FTM-10SR are suppose to be waterproof mobile rigs and the Yaesu VX-8R, VX-7R, are waterproof.....there may be others as well..
Yes, sorry. The cup holder mount. It seems to have a slight taper, and even though I thought I cranked it down pretty tight, it still had a tendency to pop out when I hit a bump or two. Maybe I will have a bowl of Wheaties and try again.
Thanks,

You can also get a speaker/mike for it that is waterproof as well.
All depends on how much you want to spend.

Maybe I can sweetalk Santa and there will be a FT 7900 under the tree???

Hell, I can dream cant I???
