Mobile Mount Question
I'm getting a Kenwood V 71a for the Jeep and I'd like to see pics of where
other members have their mobile mounts.
I was thinking about mounting the body of the
radio on the drivers side on the whel well behind the seat and the head
below the AC controls.
Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Rugged ridge has a dash organizer that comes with tabs for a "cb" my cb is an all in one cobra I never use, except for trail runs with groups, so it's put away. In the tray is the scanner, on top is Kenwood face, to passenger is avmap for APRS.
Yes that is 3 antennas, soon to be 4 for another tri bander ht . Mainly for 220. It gets crowded with mics sometimes but in a handful of mountain areas there is only 220 repeaters for some reason.
Where are you located? Just curious, trying to meet more 4x4 hams
Hope my set up gives you some ideas.
My radio is currently under the seat but when I get mic extension it will go behind rear passenger seat with some kind of water protection as I go topless/odorless at times.
Cheers!

Right now Im in Simi Valley.
Got the radio and other "goodies" yesterday.
Spent a couple of hours playing with it this morning
in the garage as a temp base with a mag mount antenna
on a file cabinet.
Btw, that looks like a busy dash you have there.

It's not too bad... I need to move the aprs screen to the overhead console. Or maybe find some way to mount it along the center further down... I'm not sure why Kenwood didn't include a mic extension. Pluging it to the main radio part leaves limited options for placement. I still need to go to HRO and get both extensions.
Well I ask out of curiosity if I have ever ran into you on the air... I'm usually on claira peak, Santiago, or Avalon (Catalina). Sometimes mt lukens, great coverage
Post some pics once you get it figured out. Always looking for ideas!

My husband is considering that same unit. We are going to mount the unit under the driver's or passenger's seat via an underseat bracket we just purchased. The remote head will be mounted on an Arizona Rocky Road overhead mount.
I am not sure your target location has enough ventilation. Agree that the dash picture above is too busy.

One thing I like about it is the ability to program the freqs and tones for repeaters thru the mic.
When I get it mounted, Ill try and give you a call and see if we can make contact.
The only consideration with under the seat mount is ,IMHO, should the Jeep get "swamped" for
any reason, the radio wont be much use.
When I got the radio, one of the "goodies" I got was the extension cables for it.
I may get the remote mount. Not really sure where the remote is going to end up yet.
Iv also got a Arizona Rocky radio bar in mine. May put it there.
Another place I was thinkin of mounting the body is behind the glove compartment.
Dont know if there is enough room there though.

Too busy.... Nahhhh haha I like it. My wife doesn't not to mention I am adding another screen for a programmer . I'm still working out the kinks.
The unit is amazing, especially for off road. Mainly because you can plot your trip.
We camp with a 1956 Shasta and I can set up a laptop and a HT with aprs kinda like a base net control and record and just plain know the location of the group.
HAM radio active. KJ6YWC
