Default Tunable Antenna?

First, thanks for the input.

I don't know the brand name of the Antenna off hand, it was a generic "Trucker" Antenna. It sounds like I need to ground it somehow, (I just plugged it in; there was no ground)... The install instructions of course make no mention of a ground either.

There doesn't look to be any way to "tune" the top of the antenna, it is just a wire wound around a fiberglass stick with a rubber tip. I'll take pics of the mount and post later when I'm waiting to win my new lift kit!

I'll search for ground threads here too.

mkjeep:: that sucks about the foot man. I may get up to Ponchatoula this weekend, if so I'll holla at you.

Doesn't sound like you have a tuneable antenna. I'm
no expert though.

the mount is what needs to be grounded. they are usually self grounding but the tailgate is poorly grounded. as far as tuning goes on that style... depending on your swr reading you can cut the outer layer a little and unwind the wire and cut 1\4" at a time until you get a good reading. dont forget to put the cap back each time. A lot of them come "pretuned" so might not need to do much if you are well grounded and well placed. you do need to check though. you will damage the unit if its wrong. swr relates to transmitting more than recieving so it can still be off even if it sounds good. 10-4 little trucker buddy

I ran a ground strap from my tailgate to the tub and solved my ground issue.Since the tailgate is on hinges, it's a poor ground.

Default Got all I need

Well I got a complete system that I bought piece by piece at Malwart and RadioSlack.

I have a base model Cobra unit that I mounted on the passenger side of the shifter using the factory Torx bolt and the supplied mount. I got a 2" trucker antenna that I fabricated a tire mount with some metal bought at Lowe's... I also bought 20' of antenna cable.

Everything works; I tested on the last trail ride.... I definitely see an upgrade to a higher end CB unit in the future, and maybe a 3' firestick or similar.... but for now it works on the trail as intended.

Any one else have luck with other setups, I am asking Santa for this. I found a real nice setup (on paper, never used it) and I did not save the website, now I cant find it again. It was made just for the jk and was like 130 dollars. Not any of the afore mentioned kits.
