Yes it does.
I was thinking either mounting mine there or above the mirror.
Out of the three manufacturers, Im kinda leaning more towards Yaesu or Kenwood, simply for the fact that the mics connect to the head and, in my mind, the Icom head would be a extra cable to run.
Maybe Im wrong but that s the impression I got from the pics of the units.

I know this is an old post. here's my question. Can anyone tell me the difference between the yaesu vx-7r and the vx-8r. As far as I can tell the vx-8r has bluetooth, aprs, gps. I tried looking for some comparison on the web with no luck.
The GPS on the VX-8 is an add on module. So is the bluetooth. They aren't integrated. As you stated it has the APRS functionaltity built in.
The other is a $50 price difference. I wish I had spent the extra money and gotten the VX-8.

Congrats!
And you thought the Jeep was a drain on the wallet.
I think you should find the club first, you may be able to pick up used equipment cheep.
New HF radios are expensive but if you are set on new stuff, look at Ten Tec.
Ten Tec has the Jupiter it's a SDR (Software Defined Radio) that looks like a regular radio but can be controlled through software.
At the bottom of the following page you will find a refrence to the Get On HF Now kit. I have $800 saved so far for this radio.

Get an HT for local phone you can set it up as a mobile in your Jeep. They are low power so don't expect to much range without repeaters.
