Quick & Easy radio mount
I guess I'm a combination of impatient and lazy. I don't have a cb radio --- but I do have a Yaesu FT-817ND which covers 2-meters, 6-meters, 440 Mhz and HF. And I wanted to get something in the JK and get it working --- quickly & easily. So -- I put the '817 in the small tray on the dash -- under the mirror. The stock rubber duckie 2-meter antenna just slides behind the mirror --- providing some stability against back and forth movement. I may also put a foam block under the front of the radio. The antenna also has a clear shot out of the windshield and works great. Power comes from a coiled cord with cigar plug on the end --- and the FT-817ND power plug on the other. Running les than 5-watts --- the cigar lighter socket easily handles it. The added bonus is --- I can pack a small EndfedZ antenna -- sling it into a tree limb --- and have HF operation. Stationary, of course. This makes for a neat and clean setup. Thanks --- Randy K4LJA
